Frequently asked questions
Why have a veterinary behaviour consult?
Our veterinary behaviour consults are an in-depth approach to treat medically and emotionally driven behavioural concerns in cats. Dr Katie is a veterinary surgeon and behaviourist meaning she is in the unique position of being able to treat your cat as a whole to achieve the best results.
Can I claim on my pet insurance?
Yes we can claim direct with your pet insurance (if you have appropriate cover) meaning you only need to pay us your excess payment ahead of the consult.
We can run a preauthorisation to ensure you are covered if you have cover with; Petplan, Agria, Kennel Club, Animal Friends, PDSA and EveryPaw.

How do I book?
Contact us (info@positivepetbehaviourvet.com) or via message on 07785 80008 to proceed book your Zoom consult. You can pay for the consult in full if self funding or let us know about your insurance policy, and pay your excess, if wishing to submit a claim.
Can you really help my cat?
We certainly can! Dr Katie sees cats who are really struggling and can make a huge difference to them and their family's quality of life. But behavioural modification is not a quick fix. It takes time and effort and will include some changes in your set up and management of your cat but we can help to make things easier for you and your cat too.
Will my insurance cover a Veterinary Behaviour Consult?
We recommend checking your insurance policy carefully to ensure you have cover.
For some companies we can run a preauthorisation to confirm that you have cover ahead of your consult.

*It is your responsibility to ensure that you have appropriate cover in place. If you are not covered, for any reason, you will be responsible for any outstanding charges.
Check for behaviour cover
Review the wording in your policy to see if you have behavioural cover listed on your policy. There may be a separate monetary limit applied which may impact how much of the consult is covered.
Be aware of your policy limit
If you have already reached your annual policy limit then you will be unable to claim further treatment during this policy year. If you have lifetime cover then you may be able to claim in the next policy year instead.
Is the behaviour pre-existing?
If your cat’s behavioural symptoms began before your insurance policy started (usually within the first 2–4 weeks of cover), this will be classed as a pre-existing condition and is unlikely to be covered.

Cats are such a huge part of our families but when they develop behavioural concerns it can be so upsetting and stressful for all involved.
