Veterinary Behaviour Consult

"I found the behaviour consultation really informative and it made me realise how much we needed training as well as our dog. You think you are doing the right think but we have probably been making things worse."
Julie M
"Just an update. What a transformation following his first practical on Saturday. His greeting to visitors was a lot more calm. Even had comments of "is he the same dog?". His harness and lead were way better when putting it on, thanks"

How is it different to "dog training"?

Veterinary behaviour Consults are a much more in depth approach, addressing and treating emotionally driven behaviours and the underlying factors causing these issues compared to teaching new behaviours. A comparison of teaching a dog to cope being left on their own vs sitting when asked.

How long does it take?

There are no quick fixes when dogs are struggling emotionally but we can help you to understand your dog, protect them and stop things from getting worse. Then teach you how to help them change how they feel to see the fantastic results all whilst maintaining a strong bond with your dog. We aim for significant behaviour change to occur over the period of some months.

How do you treat behaviour issues?

We look at and treat your dog as a whole including physical, emotional and cognitive approaches to behaviour. This includes management steps and active behavioural training all of which is explained in our treatment courses.

Does it work?

Dogs are emotionally sentient beings, not robots — we can’t simply ‘program’ them for instant change. Be cautious of anyone guaranteeing 100% success, as behaviour is influenced by many factors and cannot always be controlled.
That said, we regularly see fantastic results, with complete resolution of behavioural concerns in many cases. In others, progress may be limited by medical conditions, breed predispositions, or normal behavioural drives. Even then, we work towards the best possible solutions. With effective management strategies and a deeper understanding of your dog, their behaviour is no longer seen as a problem but as something you can confidently manage.
